
Lucknow celebrated the best of luxury in both fashion and automobiles at the Fashion in Top Gear, a fashion show organized by The Times of India and Navbharat Times in association with UP Khadi and Village Industries Board. The theme of the event was to promote the use of khadi wear clothes as daily and party wear.
Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Information, MSME, Export Promotion,Khadi & Village Industry, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, was the chief guest at the show. He said, “This event is much more than a fashion show. It is a celebration of our handlooms and the efforts of local artisans who strive to keep the art of spinning khadi through generations. Now, we have to make khadi a global phenomenon.”
Dr Vandana Sehgal, Dean and Principal at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, who was the guest of honour said, “Khadi is more than a fabric. It’s deeply rooted in our history as a symbol of resistance that played a key role in India’s struggle for independence. We need more events to shine the spotlight on Khadi.”
Designers from the city like Asma Hussain, Padma Shri Runa Banerjee, Aditi Jaggi Rastogi, and Roopika Rastogi shpwcased their designs at the event and stressed on the use of khadi in a fashionable way.
The event started with Aditi’s collection of Indo-Western designs in shades of pink being showcased. Her collection was followed by Tanoura dance performance, a traditional folk dance of Egypt. The second collection was presented by Runa Banerjee. She said, “It feels great to be a part of tonight’s show that showcases khadi.” Later on, Asma and Rupika also had models sashaying on the ramp in their exclusive collections, respectively.
