New Delhi: Asia Cup 2023 will not be held in Pakistan. The tournament will be played at a neutral venue. Secretary Jay Shah confirmed this after the BCCI AGM in Mumbai. Jay Shah said that next year Asia Cup will be held at a neutral venue. The decision to allow the Indian team to travel to Pakistan is taken by the government, so we will not comment on that. But for the 2023 Asia Cup, it has been decided that this tournament will be held at a non-neutral venue. According to Cricbuzz, BCCI Secretary and Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah said that neutral venues for the Asia Cup are not new. We have decided that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan. We will play at a neutral venue.
The hosting of the 2022 Asia Cup was entrusted to Sri Lanka. However, the tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates due to the political situation there. In 2023, this tournament is to be held in Pakistan in 50 over format. After that, the ODI World Cup is to be played in India. Initially there were reports that the BCCI had kept the option of the Indian team going to Pakistan and participating in the Asia Cup open. But Jay Shah, who came to participate in the BCCI AGM, made it clear that the question of going to Pakistan was not raised in the AGM of the board.
In the recently launched Future Tour program by ICC i.e. FTP, Pakistan has got to host two major ICC events in the next 3 years. An Asia Cup, which will be played in the 50-over format next year, and the Champions Trophy in 2025 will also be held in Pakistan. International cricket has returned to Pakistan after almost a decade. This is the first time since then that Pakistan has hosted two major ICC tournaments. But after BCCI’s statement of organizing the Asia Cup at a neutral venue, it has to be seen what Pakistan’s stand is in this matter.
